Kelimutu Volcano
We travelled a long way to see these multi coloured lakes. From Labuan Bajo to Ruteng to Bajawa to Ende to Moni. Not one stretch of the journey was comfortable; the buses were crowded, the roads winding and bumpy, and the drivers erratic. But the scenery was beautiful and everyone patiently helped us out with a smile. They even sometimes understood my random hand gestures. We hired someone to take us up Mt. Kelimutu at 4:30 in the morning, so that we could hike up to the viewpoint in time for sunrise. And as the light changed, the colours of each of three lakes also shifted. Not the most spectacular sunrise we’ve ever seen, but still worth the trip!
